Now that the temperatures are starting to rise, we can’t wait to take off our brightest dresses. But before we can parade around in spring-like looks, there is work to be done. That jungle must be cut down considerably. Shaving your legs may be cheap, easy, and fast. But the bad thing is that your winter coat grows back in no time.
Now that we want to hoist ourselves into a dress, skirt, or shirt every day, stubble is anything but fine. But other methods of hair removal – lasering, waxing, and plucking – are often painful. For both your body and your wallet. Fortunately, there is a method that you can easily perform at home, namely sugaring.
Sugaring
Sugaring has been used in Eastern countries for centuries. This method of hair removal is similar to waxing but has many advantages. Sugaring is 100% natural, a paste is used that consists of water, sugar, and lemon juice. Because this sugar paste only adheres to the hair – and therefore not to the skin – this is a less painful method of hair removal than waxing, for example.
Sugaring removes all hairs, even the shortest hairs don’t stand a chance. The dead skin cells are also peeled, leaving you with silky soft skin. Your skin will remain free of hair for between 3 and 8 weeks. If the hairs are already coming back, there is no stubble, but a narrow, soft tip. The more often you apply to sugar, the faster your hair follicles shrink.
Finally, the sugar paste is very cheap and you can even use the paste several times in the same zone. And you can apply the wax on your legs, pubic area, armpits, and face. You can buy ready-to-use sugar wax, but you can also prepare it in your own kitchen. Ideal! Learn more sugar wax
The recipe
You take:
- a cup of granulated sugar
- lemon juice from half a lemon
- a teaspoon of salt
- cold water
You prepare:
- a pan
- a spoon
- a large, smooth and heat-resistant surface (marble or the worktop)
This is how you make it:
Add the sugar, water, salt, and lemon juice to the pan and mix it over low heat. Keep stirring until the mixture starts to boil and it is light brown in color. Now pour it on a cold surface and use the spoon to make sure that the sugar resin remains together as a pile. Keep doing this until the resin cools and thickens in texture. If you do it right, the mixture first looks a bit like honey and then it really looks like resin.
Wet your hands with cold water, take a piece of the resin, and make a ball. The color should become lighter during kneading. Keep kneading until it is kind of like toffee. Then divide the wax into 5 balls. With 1 serving you can completely wax your legs. The remaining resin can be wrapped in plastic and stored in the refrigerator. If you want to use it again, you can heat it up in the microwave for a while, so that the wax becomes soft again.
How do you use it?
Wet your fingers with cold water and take 1 scoop of wax. Pull it apart and knead it back together. Repeat this movement until it becomes as smooth as gum. Apply the wax to your skin – in the direction of your hair growth – and press it down firmly. Pull the wax – against the direction of your hair growth – like a plaster from your skin. Knead the paste again so that you can use it on a different area of your skin. After waxing you throw away the wax!
Tips
Precaution
You should let your hair grow for about 2 to 3 weeks before you start waxing. Your hair must be at least half a centimeter long to get the best results. You can gently exfoliate your skin a few days before waxing to remove all dead skin cells. This makes your hairs looser and can be waxed more easily. Before you start waxing it is important that you clean your skin well.
Aftercare
During the first few days after the treatment, it is advisable not to shower too hot. Sitting in the hot sun for too long can also cause irritation. As well as perfumed care products. It is important to moisturize your skin well, with a natural remedy, such as aloe vera. Try not to exfoliate for the first week after waxing as your skin can be very sensitive. After this week, it is wise to go for a scrub. This way you prevent new hairs from growing in.
